Portraits of Leadership: Mohna Ansari, Nepal

Mohna Ansari is a passionate advocate for women's legal rights and opportunities in Nepal. In secondary school, Ms. Ansari was inspired by an Asia Foundation legal rights education program for girls. She became the first member of her family to graduate from college—and went on to become the only female Muslim attorney in Nepal. Recently, she successfully argued a landmark case for a woman to claim her legal right to family property.

Episode One of this three-part series on AFN tracks the stations reporters and staff and their mission to reach the public with news on Nepals upcoming Constituent Assembly election. Through offering unique programming and partnering with local stations, they aim to disseminate urgent and timely information to the most rural parts of Nepal.

Culture Shock: A Project of The Asia Foundation in Thailand

Each year in Thailand, many graduates of the Pondok schools, private Islamic religious schools in the southern regions, have the opportunity to continue their studies at esteemed universities in Bangkok. But once they arrive, students often find adjusting to life in the big city confusing and challenging. As a result, many choose to withdraw from their schools.

The Asia Foundation's "Culture Shock" program helps high school students in southern Thailand prepare for this by giving them tools, skills, and resources that ease the transition to life in a large, multi-cultural society.
